Commercial Interior Design highlights the 50 most influential creative professionals fueling the region’s growing design industry

Commercial Interior Design is proud to honour the Top 50 most influential individuals who have been at the forefront of the design industry across the Middle East over the past 12 months. In this issue, we celebrate the passion, aesthetics and energy that drives creativity. We have identified those who are maintaining their positions of power or building a presence within the market. From interior, lighting and furniture designers to contractors, our list is as diverse and extensive as the entire design industry itself.

#15 Paul Bishop - Having worked in Dubai since 1996, Bishop established Bishop Design in 2004 alongside his wife and professional partner Ellen. In the past 11 years, the company has experienced a steady growth in terms of staff number as well as projects. Bishop Design not only maintains its status as a leading boutique firm, it exhibits the benefits of in staying small. Recent projects by Bishop’s firm have gone on to win design awards and the team in past two years took home CID’s Boutique Interior Design Firm of the Year Award. Projects such as BOA Steakhouse, KOI Restaurant & Lounge as well as Katana Restaurant & Grill have all made their international debuts here in the Middle East with Bishop’s spin on the renowned Hollywood venues. He has also been key in the design of Michelin star chef Greg Malouf’s ‘Cle Dubai’ as well as the first international venue for Turkish brand ‘Nusr-Et’ at the Four Seasons Hotel Jumeirah Beach.

#41 Ellen Søhoel, former Bishop - As founder of one of Dubai’s top luxury interior design firms, Ellen Bishop manages the day-to-day aspects of the company’s general operations. While her husband and partner Paul Bishop takes care of the hospitality, retail and commercial projects, Ellen Søhoel is well known for tending to the FF&E as well as managing the residential projects that the firm takes on. She has now set her sights on a new dedicated residential division in Dubai Design District and this new venture has enabled her to drive the Bishop Design brand forward. She aims to achieve further success with a personally dedicated service to clients as well as bringing unique and customised signature designs to this region.
