Salvaging The Past
Ellen Søhoel, former Bishop, managing partner at Bishop Design associates, is excited about this year’s movement towards what she calls ‘salvaging the past’. It’s all about a return to memories and nostalgia, a ‘less is more’ attitude that combines function with aesthetics and comfort. “All in all more understated in terms of interior finishes,” she says.
This means furniture with washed-out paint and distressed woods, all with a raw ‘used’ finish or vintage look and a return to natural, handmade fabrics featuring subtle florals like Scandinavian influenced posies as well as stripes. “It feels like we have become more deep, emotional and personal in our designs,” says Bishop.
